Backups

MongoDB

Backups for MongoDB Atlas are performed on two levels. First, Atlas makes live backups using the Oplog and makes snapshots with the following schedule:

Frequency UnitEveryRetention Time
Hourly6 hours7 days
Daily-7 days
WeeklySaturday4 weeks
MonthlyLast day of month12 months

To prevent loss in the event of deletion of a whole Atlas MongoDB cluster the latest snapshot is backuped monthly to S3 by a CronJob.

Note that, for now, both the Krane production cluster and the Sherpa clusters are backed up.
